Verse of the day:
So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. (Matthew 10:31)
To say that there are things about the nature of God that I don’t understand would be an understatement. I mean, how can the God of the universe find worth in us? How can God find value in such a messed up and broken world?
Most of us assign value or worth to someone because they add value to our lives. All of us have friends and family that are “worth” having. The value that they add to our lives is worth the cost of time, personal inconvenience, and even the pain that they bring to our lives. The higher the value, the more we are willing to look past and work through.
Jesus says that we have worth to God. He values us. Jesus states that God knows the hairs on our head and he knows when a sparrow falls to the ground. Jesus says that God values us more than the sparrow. But how can I, a worthless sinner, add value to God? How can I add anything to the perfection that is God? What am I worth?
God says you are worth the cost of relationship. You are worth the cost of time. You are worth the cost of forgiveness. You are worth the cost of his Son. God gave his son, not for the sparrows and not for the whole of creation, but for you. You are worth it all.
