One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Job 12:1-15:35
1 Corinthians 15:29-58
Psalm 39:1-13
Proverbs 21:30-31

Verse of the day:

Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. (1 Corinthians 15:43-44)

I, like anyone my age, love a good zombie story. Mindless, creepy, flesh eating, resurrected bodies chasing people with no other intent but to eat their brains - it doesn’t get any better than that. Quality storytelling potential right there. Zombies are in the Bible too (amazing right? If you didn’t know that, you really should read your Bible more because it’s packed with good stuff like this). When Jesus died and gave his final breath, the Bible says in Matthew 27:51-53 that dead people were raised from the dead, left the cemeteries, and started walking around in the cities. Maybe our next Easter musical should make this the focal point! Ok, they may not have been flesh eating mindless drones, but it’s the closest thing we can find to a zombie.

Take a look at yourself right now. If you’re in your 20s, maybe even your 30s, you may have never looked better. But for everyone else, things are probably not improving. It’s really a sad thought that our bodies are slowly deteriorating (this is getting depressing) and falling apart. Our bodies slowly become broken and weak and eventually stop working all together. How miserable would it be if that was it? Good thing it’s not!

For Christians, there’s an incredible hope knowing that this is not it! These physical bodies may fall apart and fail us, but there’s another body being prepared for us that is raised in glory and strength! We cannot comprehend how amazing Heaven will be! I don’t know this for sure, but I picture it with colors we’ve never gazed at, smells we’ve never experienced, and feelings we never knew existed. Sin has made it so that our physical bodies degenerate, but because of Jesus’ grace extend to us, there’s a new and improved body coming! If you’re feeling down about your body, know that a better one is awaiting you. There’s encouragement knowing that Heaven is our prize, press on towards the goal and remember that this life is temporary, but eternity is the real life!
