The Royal Priesthood // Sunday, October 19

Posted: Sunday, October 19

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Jeremiah 33:1-34:22
1 Timothy 4:1-16
Psalm 89:1-13
Proverbs 25:23-24

Verse of the day:

In those days and at that time I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. In that day Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this will be its name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness. (Jeremiah 33:15-16)

The blessings God has in store here, is a promise of the Messiah. His righteousness covers his church, for He is made of God to us righteousness; and believers are made the righteousness of God in him. Christ is our Lord, our righteousness, our sanctification, and our redemption. His kingdom is an everlasting one, and all true believers are a holy priesthood. They are a royal priesthood who offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God; as they themselves are living sacrifices. The promises of that covenant shall be accomplished in the gospel of Christ. And all who walk according to the gospel, are part of the kingdom of God; on whom there shall be peace and mercy.

In the days to come, which are hastening on, in the fullness of time God will cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up, who is the Messiah. Who is not only a branch of David's family, but the Branch of righteousness. He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. He is on the throne to order and establish all things for the good, and for his Father's glory. He has "wrought" out an everlasting "righteousness", for the justification of His people.

Through God’s grace, we can live as that Royal Priesthood; offering up ourselves and spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable and pleasing to God.
