1 Thessalonians 2:9-3:13
Verse of the day:
After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you! (1 Thessalonians 2:19)
After reading the above verse in today’s reading, my mind went back to “Show and Tell”. Do you remember bringing your prized possessions to school and showing them to your classmates during “Show and Tell” time? I remember bringing one item to “Show and Tell”. It was a set of deer antlers. My daughter has “Show and Tell” time in her kindergarten class too. She hasn’t been asked to bring anything yet. I wonder what she’ll take. You always hope that what you bring will get a positive response like, “cool” or “awesome”. But sometimes the response you get is less than what you hoped for.
When we stand before Jesus one day, what will we want to show Him? Will we want to show Him our house or our car? Will we show Him our position and achievements in the work place? Will it be our bank statement that we show Him? Will it be our child’s report card? How about our ministry programs and church buildings? I’ve got to say that He would be less than impressed with any of the above.
What is it that Paul says he would show off to Jesus? He says he would “glory” in those Thessalonians he had won to the Lord. That’s what He would show Jesus. How prepared are you for Jesus’ “Show and Tell” time. Are you busy telling people about Jesus? Are you making disciples? Are you winning the lost? Because it’s people that Jesus wants to see with us. Its souls we have won into God’s kingdom that’s going to get the “cool” or “awesome” from Christ.
