God, Our Refuge
Posted: Tuesday, December 23
Verse of the day:
Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. (Psalm 142:5)
One of the great truths about God is that He is our refuge. Refuge is defined as the condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.
Unfortunately we become aquatinted with God as our refuge during seasons of trouble and conflict.
I remember a difficult day back when I was in 6th grade. Just like David felt like in Psalm 142:4 I felt like I had no friends to turn to. So I opened up the bible and began reading the Psalms. The peace and comfort that I received as I opened the scriptures was so immediate and real that I can still remember the time and the place where I met with God after school. That day I got to know God as my refuge.
As we grow older we often look elsewhere for shelter. We turn to a good friend or we go online or escape on vacation. All of these can be helpful but none are as readily available as our God. No other refuge can replenish our souls the way time with God can.
Need shelter today? Facing trouble on all sides? God is your refuge.
