Praise The Lord!

Verse of the day:
How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. (Psalm 147:1-3)
Most likely, Psalm 147 was written after the return of the Jews from the Babylonian captivity. You see, the Babylonian exile was a traumatic experience for Israel. They grieved the violence that occurred in their city and they felt abandoned by their God. They were surrounded by violence and hopelessness.
When the time of restoration came, under the rule of the Persian King Cyrus, the psalmist invited the people to worship. He said, it is good, delightful and fitting to sing praises to our God because He is doing something new! God is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He is healing the brokenhearted and bandaging their wounds.
Even though we are not captives of the Babylonian Empire, today we can identify with their feelings of grief over the violence and hopelessness around us. However, our hope doesn’t come from a Persian King. Our hope is found in Jesus, the one true King! When God became man, humanity received the gift of true and lasting restoration. Thus, it is still good, delightful and fitting to sing praises to God! Jesus is rebuilding lives and bringing families back together. He is healing the sick and the brokenhearted. God is giving hope to the hopeless and peace to every person that invites Jesus into his heart.
Let us start the year signing praises to the Lord!
