Verse of the day:

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. (Luke 14:11)

There is a drive inside of us to feel important and to have other’s recognize our importance.  That drive can lead to looking to others for validation and value. It can lead us to pride and trying to prove to others how important we are. But Jesus teaches against that. He teaches that those who exalt themselves and boast their own importance will find themselves in situations where they are humbled.

So what should we do instead? We should take the road of humility and look to God for our value. We are always important in His eyes, and His opinion of us never changes. He will always love us whether we are important to the world or not.  He sees value when we do the work that no one else wants to do, He sees and gives credit when things are done behind the scenes.  He will lift up those who have taken the road of humility but those who choose the road of pride and self-importance will ultimately be brought down.
