One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Joshua 24:1-33
Luke 21:1-28
Psalm 89:38-52
Proverbs 13:20-23

Verse of the day:

I gave you land you had not worked on, and I gave you towns you did not build—the towns where you are now living. I gave you vineyards and olive groves for food, though you did not plant them. So fear the lord and serve him wholeheartedly…  (Joshua 24:13–14)

God is an expert at giving.  In Genesis, Abraham first coined the phrase “Jehovah Jireh,” which denotes God’s attribute as Jehovah–our provider.

Too many times we take credit for the things we have gained in life.  God is always reminding us that it is Him ho bestows the blessings we do have.  There’s nothing that you have gained in life, that God didn’t have His hand in it first.  If you doubt this, please take a moment and take a deep breath…  That breath belongs to God.  He allowed you to take it.  Without it, you cannot work, make money, or even be alive.

Here is the point of this verse:  Don’t forget God when things are going well (as we often tend to do), but rather, fear Him and serve Him because it is Him who gives and takes away.

Take inventory of the “land” that you have not worked on, the “towns” you did not build, and the “vineyards” and “olives groves” you didn’t cultivate, and give Him the credit for all of it.  This will strip any sense of entitlement in us, and give us a sense of awe for the ONE that is our Jehovah Jireh–our provider.
