One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Judges 9:22-10:18
Luke 24:13-53
Psalm 100:1-5
Proverbs 14:11-12

Verse of the day:

“Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt?”  (Luke 24:38)

Ok, so if I see a person, who was dead, suddenly appeared, I would be loosing all my marbles too!  So why would Jesus ask such question to the disciples?  Just some time ago he was inside a tomb, and now he wants to have lunch with them?   The whole thing seems a bit odd and disjointed.  However, I believe Jesus was genuinely surprised at their reaction. Think about it; Jesus predicted his death and resurrection countless of times.  He would look at them dead in the eyes and say things like:

22 “The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,”... “He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” Luke 9:22 (NLT)

And this was not the only time, either.  He predicted his death repeatedly throughout their ministry, and they have the audacity to be surprised?  And why? Its not like, in addition to Jesus’ prediction, they didn’t see Him heal the sick, resurrect the dead, feed thousands with a boy’s lunch, walk on water, calm the storms, and rebuke demons.  I mean, what else does a guy have to do to show his divinity around here?

So my question to challenge you today is, what else does God have to do in your life to show you that He is fully divine and fully in control?   Why are you frightened and your heart filled with doubt?  If God has showed himself strong before, please understand that, He will show Himself strong again… and again… and again…
