2 Samuel 2:12-3:39
Verse of the day:
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. (John 13:15)
Many of us have heard the phrase, “lead by example.” Jesus was an expert at teaching this principle. Godly leadership is not easy; it takes a lot of intentional drive to be unselfish and caring in situations where, usually, you wouldn’t be.
Jesus was teaching this principle as he was finishing up touching disgusting, muddy feet (which, by the way, it was a verydegrading thing to do in Jesus’ culture).
As Jesus knelt down to wash feet the disciples were alarmed, they didn’t want their master, teacher, leader, or God in the flesh, to wash their nasty feet. Why? Because, simply, it doesn’t fit their view of what true leadership is like. Jesus, with nasty feet in his hands, said: “Do as I have done.”
Questions: What is your view of servant leadership? Does it match Jesus’? How can you do as He has done, today? Here’s a pointer: if it doesn’t involve dealing with the dirty on others, it may not look like Jesus.
