2 Samuel 4:1-6:23
Verse of the day:
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. (John 13:34)
Most people are looking for love. Don’t believe me? A simple search for “love” on itunes pulls up hundreds of songs from a variety of styles with a plethora of messages that are all about love and relationships.
Jesus had much to say about love and relationships and he sums it all up with this new command. It’s different than some of the “old” commands: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This time, Jesus takes our relationships to a whole different level putting a new spin on an old concept when he says, “Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” And in doing this, he takes the focus off of looking forlove and places it on looking to love.
So, the questions must be asked, “How did Jesus love us?” and “What does his love look like?” Of course, his love was extreme. It was flagrant. It was extravagant. He not only went the “extra-mile” for us coming from heaven to earth, but at the end of his human journey there stood a rugged cross and a borrowed tomb. He met our need for salvation because he loves us. This is the measure of his love and it’s the kind of love we are to show to one another.
Are you ready to take that plunge? Will you show that kind of love to those around you today?
