2 Samuel 14:1-15:22
Verse of the day:
When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. (John 18:6)
This verse brings to mind a familiar portion of scripture from Philippians 2:10-11 which says “…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” There is power in the name of Jesus.
The story of “Jesus’ Arrest” in John 18:1-11 illustrates this. Judas shows up with soldiers and officials at the olive grove where Jesus and His disciples were. Jesus, knowing the answer, asks them the question, “Who is it you want?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth”. Jesus replied “I am he.” Our verse tells us what happened next. “When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.” (John 18:6) When He revealed He was Jesus, they fell to the ground. There is power in the name of Jesus.
I was ten years old. My mom and I were on our way to church on a blizzardy Sunday morning. My mom was driving. We hit an ice patch and the car was all over the road. On one side of the road was a steep embankment and on the other side was a ditch. We were on the shoulder of the road headed toward the edge of the embankment when my mom said this, “Jesus!”. She didn’t use His name in vain, she simply cried out to the one she put her trust in. At the mention of His name our car swirled around and went in the ditch on the other side of the road and we were safe. There is power in the name of Jesus.
I don’t know what your situation might be, but I know this, there is power in the name of Jesus. Not just power to knock down some soldiers, but power to forgive, heal, protect, provide, deliver, guide and so much more. Cry out to Him today. There is power in the name of Jesus, the name above every name.
