One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Kings 1:1-2:25
Acts 13:42-14:7
Psalm 139:1-24
Proverbs 17:19-21

Verse of the day:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14)

Do you ever read this verse and think it is referring to everyone except you?  It is easy to get feeling down about yourself when you begin to compare yourself to others.  We live in a day of comparison—we compare ourselves on Facebook – we compare ourselves to others at the gym – we compare ourselves at work – we compare our yard to our neighbor’s yard – It’s easy to get caught up in the cycle of comparison.  One of two things happens when we compare:  We either develop pride because we have compared other’s lows to our highlights OR we feel bad about ourselves because we have compared our weaknesses to others strengths.

Where we go wrong is thinking that we need to compare ourselves at all—We are all fearfully and wonderfully made!  God doesn’t make junk!  When we take this truth to heart it helps us fight against pride and self-loathing because it’s not about us! God made us and He is the one to receive all the glory for what He has given us the abilities to do! He has created us all with unique strengths and weaknesses. We don’t need to feel threatened or inferior by other’s strengths that are not the same as our own.

When you feel yourself getting caught into the cycle of comparison go back to God’s Word and see what He says about you! At the end of the day it’s His opinion that matters most!
