One Year Bible Reading Guide:

1 Chronicles 1:1-2:17
Acts 23:11-35
Psalm 3:1-8
Proverbs 18:14-15

Verse of the day:

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. (Psalm 3:3)

One of the coolest things about Captain America is his shield. It’s made out of vibranium, which in comic lore, is a metal that absorbs impact through vibration and stores that energy within the molecules of the metal. Coincidently, the more vibration absorbed by vibranium, the stronger the metal becomes. (This is super geeky, I know, but trust me there’s a pay off coming) Captain America is famous for his shield and it’s become a character in of itself! With the recent movie release, the shield and emblem have become one of the most recognizable icons this summer. It is his choice of weapon and his greatest aid in defense.

Psalm 3 describes God as a shield around us. Far more than Captain America’s imaginative vibranium metal shield, God covers EVERYTHING for us; the front, back, sides, and our truest blind spots. God describes us as his deepest treasure, more precious to him than angels or any other creation. We were made with the same likeness of God, with His breath of life, and with the capability to live forever with Him. God loves you so incredibly much and wants to protect you from the things in this world that will scar you.

The real test is, will you let him be your shield? As God’s most precious creation, he wants to protect us from the death grip of sin. He has given us free will to do things his way and stay under his shield of protection or to walk out of it to do things our own way. Everyday we hold that choice in our hands, will you let God be your choice of weapon and greatest defense? Today, live life to the fullest under God’s shield and do things his way. You’ll be so grateful you did.
