One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Job 4:1-7:21
1 Corinthians 14:18-40
Psalm 37:30-40
Proverbs 21:27

Verse of the day:

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. But be sure that everything is done properly and in order. (1 Corinthians 14:39-40)

When I was in 4th grade, I was an annoying goofy kid that loved being the class clown. I loved Star Wars, Batman, LEGOs, and of course Donkey Kong 64! Growing up in Oak Creek Assembly of God, I had heard about the Holy Spirit my whole life. I was very aware and familiar with speaking in tongues and prophecy during services, so when the opportunity was given for me to seek it out, I took it! I was at Spencer Lake Kids Camp when the guest speaker made the announcement that he was going to do a short pre-service on being baptized in the Holy Spirit. My choices were to go the pre-service or the all camp water fight with massive water guns, water balloons, and the chance to soak your counselors. Believe it or not, I went to the pre-service. I was interested in the Holy Spirit and more so that I could experience first hand what I had seen so many others engage in!

After the pre-service where the speaker explained what it meant to speak in tongues and be filled with the Holy Spirit, and that all it took was asking God for it, I made it my mission to be baptized that night! During the altar call time, I remember asking God very specifically to baptize me, and sure enough He did! I began speaking in tongues and just let it flow! There was a girl next to me who I remember looked at me very strange because I was speaking in this unknown language.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is such a dynamic and unforgettable moment. The Holy Spirit is to be our aid in living out the Christian walk, and speaking in tongues is a gift God wants all of His believers to engage in. I’ve never spoken in tongues more than I have this last year, and just like lifting weights, the more I practice it the stronger and more regular it becomes in my prayer life. I like to pray in tongues when other people are praying out loud and in times where I don’t know what to even say to God.

You too can be baptized in the Holy Spirit! It’s an incredible gift from God where you become more in tune with His Spirit and all you have to do is ask Him for it! If you are baptized, do what Paul wrote about in 1 Corinthians 14 and let it flow! Speak in tongues and use the spiritual gifts God has given you!
