Sin Stinks // Tuesday, August 12

Posted: Tuesday, August 12

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Nehemiah 3:15-5:13
1 Corinthians 7:25-40
Psalm 32:1-11
Proverbs 21:5-7

Verse of the day:

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! (Psalm 32:1)

There’s nothing like the feeling of being clean.

I was your typical all-American boy growing up in a small community in Michigan. I loved to play hard from dawn to dusk – and it showed. Whether we were riding our bikes, tromping through the woods, climbing trees, or playing baseball, we had little concern for what we looked or smelled like. Then I recall a change that took place in me, I started to care about my cleanliness and it was all because of one thing; girls.

I vividly remember the day I asked Jesus Christ to cleanse me of my sin. The stench of my life had become overwhelming to me. The choices I had made were repulsing to my family and friends. I wanted to be clean. I felt broken, messy, and undeserving of any kind of love, and that’s when Jesus showed up and spoke to my heart. It was out of the blue. I was wallowing in the dirt of my life and He came knocking on the door of my heart. I had heard about how God loved me but never had I felt it like I did that day. And that’s when I accepted His offer to clean up my soul and make me brand new. I never want to get dirty again.

As a 27-year follower of Jesus, I still discover sin in my life and it can be overwhelming. The stench and grime of my selfish ways may not seem so overwhelming to others, but God knows, and just like the first time He lovingly offers to cleanse me. He gently comes with “soap” and “sponge” to purify me. There’s nothing like the feeling of being clean!

Take some time to allow God to examine your heart and your life. If He wants you to change something, commit to that today. Let Him do a thorough cleaning and enjoy the freshness of your life in Him.
