The Chief Protector // Monday, August 11

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Nehemiah 1:1-3:14
1 Corinthians 7:1-24
Psalm 31:19-24
Proverbs 21:4

Verse of the day:

How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.
(Psalm 31:19)

The psalm for today focuses on the protection of the Lord. It goes on to say, “Love the Lord, all you godly ones! For the Lord protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.” What does it mean to be loyal to God? What does it mean to fear the Lord?

Everyone of us fears a bad report from the doctor. We can fear a negative comment from our boss, a phone call from the bank, or a hurtful word from a friend. But who is providing our protection? Are we more concerned with our earthly straw houses of money, relationship, and status or are we more concerned with the limitless protection of our heavenly father? Let’s trust in the Lord today.

The psalm closes with this: “Be strong and courageous all who put your hope in the Lord!”
