Follow Your Shepherd

Verse of the day:
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. (Psalm 23:1)
David knew God not only as a shepherd; but as my shepherd. It’s personal. Psalm 23 is interesting in that David talks about God and then he talks to God. David talks about God when describing the green pastures and the still waters. But when David enters the valley of the shadow of death, he doesn’t talk about God, he talks to God. I can certainly relate. It’s my job to talk about God after all and I love to share about his goodness in my life. But when I’m in trouble, when my car battery won’t start, then I stop talking about God and I start talking to God.
David goes on to say ‘I have all that I need’. Can you honestly say the same thing? When the shepherd leads sheep through the valley is there green grass and still waters? Probably not. Yet God has blessings just ahead if we follow him. We never lack anything that the shepherd knows is good for us. Our daughter Krista is at an age where she is always asking for a sucker. Yet mommy and daddy know that it’s not best for her to always have a sucker; sometimes it’s better to eat a carrot. Honestly it wouldn’t kill me to eat a few more carrots too.
Follow your shepherd closely today. He knows what you need and He knows how to get you there.
