One Year Bible Reading:

Leviticus 19:1-20:21
Mark 8:11-38
Psalm 42:1-11
Proverbs 10:17

Verse of the day:

The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)

What an honest response from this father! I think it’s a response that most of us if we are honest we can relate to from time to time. We believe that God can do anything and that He has the power to heal and transform lives but sometimes when it comes to our own lives we begin to have doubt that He will act in our situations.

Jesus doesn’t scold the boy’s father when he admits his struggle. Instead, Jesus rebukes the demons to come out of the boy so that he can be healed and free.  God is not threatened by our moments where we struggle to fully believe.  If we find ourselves in a moment of weakness where we are struggling in our faith we can count on Him to still be there for us and to strengthen our faith if we ask for help. Can you imagine how strong the faith of the boy’s father had to be after this encounter?

Faith is more of a choice than a feeling.  The boy’s father may have had some wavering feelings, but at the end of the day he made the choice to believe that Jesus could free his son.  We too can make the same choice. When our feelings are leading us away from trusting in God we can choose to have faith and trust Him anyways. We can choose to believe that He is all powerful, that He loves us, and is willing to work in our lives.

Is your faith wavering at the moment? Be honest with God about it- He knows the truth anyway! Ask Him for help to overcome your unbelief and then make the decision to trust Him regardless of what you feel! He won’t let you down!
