One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Numbers 4:1-5:31
Mark 12:18-37
Psalm 48:1-14
Proverbs 10:26

Verse of the day:

Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes. (Proverbs 10:26)

Laziness was highly discouraged growing up in the Brooks home. I remember sleeping in one morning during summer break in high school, and my dad came home around 11 am and found me still in bed! He let me know if there wasn’t enough work to be done around the house and yard that he could find some things for me to do at church! Ever since then I’ve had a hard time sleeping in; there’s work to do!

Tim Keller says that two of the greatest things we can realize when it comes to our work are first, that our work matters to God, and secondly, God matters to our work.

The way in which we work matters to God because it has the potential to bring Honor to him and work gives us a way to love others in a practical way. It’s impossible to love your neighbor without working! Our work matters to God.

God also matters in our work. When you bring Godly character, motivation and wisdom to your job, others will take notice. Our work ought to stand out because we are seeking God’s strength and leading.

Further, God created us to work. Work was a part of creation itself and God assigned work projects to Adam. If you’re feeling discouraged or apathetic about your work please remember that your work matters to God! Your work can be a beautiful expression of love to God and the people you serve.
