Numbers 10:1-11:23 Mark 14:1-21 Psalm 51:1-19 Proverbs 10:31-32
Verse of the day:
Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the Lord heard everything they said.(Numbers 11: 1)
It didn’t take long for the Israelites to start complaining after they left Egypt. They were quick to forget the real hardship they had experienced in all of their years as slaves and took for granted their freedom. God was not unaware of what was going on and heard every complaint that came out of their mouths. How ungrateful the people were for all that God had done for them! He was the one that had been aware of the suffering in Egypt and spoke to Moses to go and lead them out of Egypt. Exodus 3:7-8 “Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey…”
God had good plans for them and they were on the journey to seeing those plans come to pass. Many of them however, were unable to enter into the Promise Land because of their complaining. So often like the Israelites, we too can get wrapped up in petty annoyances forget the blessings of God that are all around us. We should instead work towards having a thankful heart that can see the good and that can see God’s faithfulness even during trials and difficult circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
What situation are you facing today that you would be tempted to complain about? A hard to get along with co-worker? Family problems? Car won’t start? You have a Headache? Instead of getting caught up complaining thank God for all the good that He is doing around you!
