Less Stingy, More Generous

Numbers 36:1-Deuteronomy 1:46
Verse of the day:
Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. (Proverbs 11:24)
You cannot out give God. God will give to you if He knows He can give through you. I want to become someone who is generous but I still struggle with stinginess.
When I reflect on this proverb the year 2010 sticks out in my mind. 2010 was Joanie and I’s first full year of marriage and we had to merge our finances and decide at what level we were going to give. 2010 was also the year where we collected pledges to build the new children’s wing at church. God put a number in my heart of what we should give, and that number was twice the amount that Joanie was thinking! But we eventually agreed upon the higher number and with God’s help we were able to give everything that we pledged. We thank God that He allowed us to do this.
2010 stands out to me as the year we were stretched in our generosity more than any other year. And yet in that year we were also able to pay my car off early and make a huge dent in our mortgage. I still scratch my head and wonder how we were able to do all that, and yet it all goes to underscore the simple truth found in Proverbs 11:24: Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.
You cannot out give God. God will give to you if He knows He can give through you.
