Remembering What God Has Done
Posted: Saturday, April 4
Verse of the day:
So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand and powerful arm, with overwhelming terror, and with miraculous signs and wonders. He brought us to this place and gave us this land flowing with milk and honey! (Deuteronomy 26: 8-9)
It’s been a long forty years of wandering for the Israelites and they are about to enter their new home. The memory of life in Egypt was a distant memory for those about to enter this new land. Many of them were children when they left Egypt and many had not been born to experience firsthand the hardship. As they are about to part ways with Moses who was not going to be allowed to enter the Promise Land he gives them some final instructions and things to remember. As they entered this new land full promise and abundance they would only remain successful if they remembered where God had brought them out of and that He was the one who had provided this land for them.
For the first time in forty years the Israelites were going to have the opportunity to get comfortable-to set up house and home and to establish a life that didn’t revolve around wandering in the desert. There is a danger though that comes when we are comfortable. It can be easy when we have all of our needs met to forget where all of our blessings come from. We can become tempted to think that our hard work is what provides for ourselves. God uses our hard work but ultimately He is the one who provides every good thing that we have.
Like the Israelites needed to be reminded of what God had done for them what do you need to stop and remember that God has done for you? Has he provided a roof over your head? A job? A family? A church family? Has He given you gifts and talents? Has he brought you out of a difficult place? Has He freed you from an addiction? Take time today to reminisce over all that God has done for you and thank Him for it!
