Numbers 11:24-13:33 Mark 14:22-52 Psalm 52:1-9 Proverbs 11:1-3
Verse of the day:
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Numbers 13:30)
Caleb stood up in opposition to the 10 spies who were saying we can’t do it, we can’t possess the land (Numbers 13:30). They said the people are powerful, they are stronger than us, the cities are fortified, there are giants there, there are people everywhere and the land devours people living there (Numbers 13:28-29, 31-33). But Caleb said we can do this (Numbers 13:30). In Numbers 14:9, with Joshua, he gives the reason for his faith, “God is certainly with us”. The people responded with “let’s stone them” (Numbers 14:10). Just then God appears before the tent of meeting and tells Moses that He is going to destroy them. Moses intervenes and God doesn’t wipe them out. Instead He doesn’t allow them into the land he had promised and they wander around in the wilderness for 40 years. Caleb and Joshua however are allowed to enter the Promised Land because of their faithfulness.
Here are a couple of quick thoughts. Like Caleb, take a stand against wrong, lies, and evil in the world. You might be standing against many and you might be standing alone. Like Caleb, stand anyway because “God is certainly with (you)”. Also, when God asks you to do something or promises you something, don’t come up with excuses for not doing it or reasons why it can’t happen. Instead trust God and enjoy the reward for your faithfulness
