Obedience – Miracle Grow for Faith

Verse of the day:
So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’ (Luke 17:10)
Jesus tells his disciples to not sin against anyone, to not cause anyone to sin and to forgive those who sin against them. The disciples realizing these aren’t always the easiest things to do, respond with, “Increase our faith”. (Luke 17:1-5) Jesus tells them that the lack of faith isn’t the problem here. (V. 6) What is needed, Jesus illustrates, is obedience – to be obedient, humble servants doing what the master asks. (v.10) If you do that, then you’ll receive from your Master. (Luke 17:6-10) Don’t get the cart before the horse. Don’t say, when God gives me more faith I’ll do what God asks. Don’t make that an excuse. No, be obedient with the faith you already have and then grow in faith as a result. Remember, even a little faith (mustard seed size) goes a long way. (v. 6)
Be God’s obedient and humble servant and have faith and who knows, maybe he’ll make the sun and moon stand still for you. He did it for Joshua. (Joshua 10:12-14) Proverbs 13:4 warns us not to be sluggards but to be diligent. “A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” Be diligent in obeying God. Obedience – it’s the Miracle Grow for faith.
