Deuteronomy 18:1-20:20
Luke 9:28-50
Psalm 73:1-28
Proverbs 12:10

Verse of the day:

About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.  Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.  They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem. (Luke 9: 28-31)

The glorious appearance of Moses and Elijah happens while Jesus is praying. Their mission appears to be one of affirmation. They are there to reinforce Jesus' conviction that he must go to Jerusalem and face rejection and death. This was not a new plan, however, but was the fulfillment of something God had planned much earlier—our salvation. Jesus is not unaware of what awaits him—He knows His mission and is ready to fulfill it. He is headed to Jerusalem to do the will of God—His Father. Jesus will fulfill the promises God had made over the centuries through his prophets. Through Jesus we are given a great reminder that God keeps His promises!

Today let’s thank God for His constant faithfulness to His promises and to us. Promises of peace, healing, provision, friendship, comfort in times of trouble and so much more. Thank Him for setting such a clear standard, a standard only He can fulfill to its fullest—helping us remember his loving kindness in those times when our lives are hard and things are not going well.
