Proverbs 24:21-22

Verse of the day:

“This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.” (Colossians 1:6)

Next week our church will turn our focus onto missions and what God is doing around the world. We will hear from missionaries and Christian workers that have given up their lives here in America to pursue the calling that God has placed in their hearts. It is always and encouraging and challenging time.

Today’s verse reminds us why we give and why we go. The same Good News that transformed our lives is going out into the world and transforming the lives of others. The same salvation that gave us entrance into the family of God is going out and changing lives.

There is so much packed into this verse:

•             The fruit of the Good news is a changed life

•             A changed life happened when both hearing and understanding happen.

•             God’s grace is present in the heart of the hearer to be the ground for the good news to grow.

Today’s encouragement is to make sure that we are sharing the Good news. You may have told a friend or family member about all that God has done for you and they have not receive the news as good. Why? Hearing must be coupled with understanding. There is a work for both us and God in the sharing of the good news. We go and speak, God’s grace comes and makes the heart open and the person listening needs to come with understanding. Each element makes a heart ripe for the seed of the Good News to produce fruit.

You may never travel around the world as a missionary but you are called to proclaim the Good news. As you do, pray also for God’s grace and that the heart of the person you are sharing with will contain understanding. Then get ready to sit back and enjoy the fruit of the Good News.
