Genesis 26:17-27:46
Matthew 9:1-17
Psalm 10:16-18
Proverbs 3:9-10

Verse of the day:

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. (Matthew 9:9 NLT)

There are people that love to party. They love the social atmosphere of being with others. They love to bounce from person to person, talking, laughing and enjoying the company of everyone. They basically love life, and love life with other people. Matthew was a party person.

Do you find it interesting that the first thing that Matthew did after leaving his old life and following Jesus was to throw a party.(see Matthew 9:10) He had just met the most amazing person and he wanted to make sure that before he left town all of his friends would have a chance to know Jesus as well. He did not try to preach to his friends. He did not invite his friends to a bible study to tell them about Jesus. He threw a party.

Matthew was a connector of people. He knew how to create the environment where people could connect together. He knew that his unrighteous friends may not come to the temple or to the synagogue, so if he wanted them to meet Jesus he had to create a place to get them in the same room. He threw a Matthew Party.

As you look at ways to get your family and friends to get connected to Jesus, why not throw a party? Just make a list of some of your friends that you want to see make Jesus a part of their lives and a list of the friends that you have that already have Jesus as a big part of their lives. Make sure the numbers are close to even. You don’t want your unsaved friends to feel like you are ganging up on them. It is supposed to be a party. Then have a conversation with your Christian friends and encourage them to have fun but to also intentionally let their joy, love and peace be a part of their conversations. Jesus is contagious. As your friends interact, he can use the night to draw your unsaved friends closer to him.

As you play games, have conversations and enjoy good food, your friends will see that people that love God are just like them, but different and that difference is Jesus. Pray that Jesus will make that difference attractive to your friends. Who knows, maybe your party is the next step in the journey of faith for your friends. So all you party people out there, party with a purpose!
