Numbers 24:1-25:18 Luke 2:1-35 Psalm 59:1-17 Proverbs 11:14
Verse of the day:
Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. (Proverbs 11:14)
People and even nations may fall if there is a lack of guidance, counsel, or a wise plan. When you have important decisions to make it is always beneficial to seek the opinion of someone who is experienced and knowledgeable in the situation. Making unilateral, independent decisions can be a recipe for disaster. Good judgement calls for many good counselors.
On the flip side of this verse, many counselors may be quite confusing. There is nothing worse than getting several contrasting solutions to the same issue from people you consider to be a good counselor. I always admire the counselors in my life who never give me the answers. Allow me to explain. Their job is not to simply give answers, but lead me to the One that will give me the answer.
When I began to communicate the possibility of moving to Wisconsin from the mission field of Mexico, there were many opposing opinions of counsel of what I should do. The multitude of counselors was disorienting and making the decision making process complicated. However, there were and still are wise counselors in my life who kept directing me to the Lord and encouraging me to seek Him for direction.
As I write this devotion I am grateful for all of those wise counselors who keep instructing me to go to the source of all wise counsel. That is where the victory is won. That is the place of safety. Make sure to make a daily appointment with the Wonderful Counselor!
