This world is not our home

1 Thessalonians 1:1-2:8
Verse of the day:
Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. (Psalm 79:9)
In our world today we see so much unrest and warring among people. If you find yourself, as a Christian, persecuted in a land because of your beliefs, or in a land constantly in peril due to warring factions all around you, what should you do?
We are constantly reminded in a Psalm, such as Psalm 79, that this world is not our home. So, in spite of the turmoil and violence all around us, we are able, by God's grace, to thank and praise Him. We can do this because we know that our salvation is not found in this temporal place—a place corrupted and thrown into chaos because of the ungodly. Rather, our salvation is found in a just and caring God.
We also know that a new heaven and a new earth are being prepared for us—a place where were these present day struggles cannot follow us. So there is no need to store up treasures here on earth. Nor is it necessary to trust in horses and chariots—God is our refuge and strength!
Pray today for Christians around the world being persecuted for their beliefs or who live in the midst of war and violence. Pray that they will remain faithful to God and will be able to give thanks and praise to Him in spite of their difficult environment—until that day when God calls them, (and us), home to heaven. There, all that we will endure on this earth will become meaningless in His forever presence.
