Commitment to Truth

A Psychologist from the University of Massachusetts named Robert Feldman has studied lying for over a decade. Through his research he has found that 60% of people lie during a typical 10-minute conversation and that they average two to three lies during that short timeframe. Yikes! He also has found that of that people he studied most are so in the habit of lying that they didn’t even realize they were doing it until they played the video back to them. Lies are such a heavy burden to carry through life. How can a person keep track of what they have said when they aren’t telling the truth?
People lie for all different reasons; convenience, embarrassment, to spare the other person hurt feelings, or to make themselves look better. Even if there aren’t malicious intentions lying always brings about hurt and trouble. Proverbs 28:26 says, “A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”
If we are followers of Christ there is no room for lies (for any reason) in our lives! Ephesians 4:25 says, “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Make a commitment today to be a person who only speaks truth. Even when it’s hard, and even when it’s embarrassing always speak truth.
