Proverbs 27:12

Verse of the day:

“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” (Proverbs 27:12)

Have you ever seen a “DANGER: NO TRESPASSING” sign and been tempted to see what’s behind the sign? A few months ago there was a story in the news about 3 boys in Dodge County that decided to ignore warning signs at an abandoned mine. They were curious about what was behind the warning signs and entered into an extremely dangerous situation.  After getting lost and enduring a dark, cold & scary night in the mine occupied by 150,000 bats the boys were rescued.  When ignoring the signs they had no idea how dangerous of a situation they were walking into. The mine was a dark maze and known to be very unstable and to have sections of it collapse underground.  Hearing their story brings out the mom in me and makes me want to ask, “What were you thinking?!” “Didn’t you see the signs?!” “How could you be so reckless?!”

Like the teenage boys we often are tempted to test the limits by ignoring danger signs in life. We know certain behaviors or situations are dangerous but we believe we can manage the danger without any consequences. Chances are like the boys you probably have ignored a danger sign at one time and walked away without any visible consequences.  That’s how the enemy hooks us. He deceives us into believing that the danger sign isn’t really necessary and that we can handle it. Living life that way is like playing Russian roulette. You always will eventually lose and lose big. Are there danger signs that you are ignoring? Have you begun to believe that God’s danger signs aren’t necessary or relevant? If so you are walking on unstable ground. Ask God for help and He will lead you back to a safe path.
