Proverbs 19:27-29

 Verse of the day:

“If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:27)

With a toddler at home a lot of my time is spent giving instruction.  When a child is born there are a few natural instincts that they are born with but most of what they learn is not preprogrammed. Currently we are working on instructing that it is not safe to run into the street, we don’t dump cups of water out of the bath tub, and that toilet paper is not meant for decorating the entire house. Pretty basic concepts that will serve our little girl well her entire life. However, it’s hard for her to listen so we continue to have to go over these points of instruction. There are times that she turns her back on this important knowledge and she finds herself in trouble.

Sound familiar? Know any adults that do the same thing? Kids are hardwired to take in knowledge. The more you observe them the more you see that they are little sponges who rely on taking in new instruction and knowledge to just survive. As we get older we begin to lose our absorbency of knowledge if we aren’t careful. We have to fight the urge to believe that we are maxed out on knowledge and that we are the experts.

This is especially vital when we come to God’s Word. God’s word is our ultimate instruction manual.  No matter how many times we read it we should always have an open heart to gain new instruction from it. The moment we stop listening to God’s instruction is the moment we find ourselves in trouble.  Decide today to keep a childlike hunger for knowledge and instruction.
