Keep the main thing the main thing

Verse of the day:
“Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” (Luke 10:19-20)
After being sent out to spread the good news about Jesus the seventy-two disciples came to report back what they had experienced. They were pumped. They saw many miraculous signs and wonders and reported back that even the demons obeyed them when they used Jesus’ name. They had never experienced anything like this before and were understandably excited.
Jesus gives an interesting response to all of their excitement. He says, “Don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” He gives a gentle course correction reminding them that as exciting as these signs and wonders are it is not more exciting than a saved soul. Signs and wonders are a tool to be used to point to God’s great power not to point to how awesome we are. We are His vessels that He chooses to flow through. We are not the source of power.
God wants to use you to do the miraculous. If you are open and you are willing to take a step out in faith He will use you as His vessel. He wants us though to not allow ourselves to become prideful and always go back to Him as our source for everything.
