 Verse of the day:

“Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity.” (Proverbs 28:25)

Have you ever been given the advice that you should not lend money to friends or relatives unless you are okay with not being paid back? I have heard this advice and I have given this advice. Money can cause such division within relationships especially when there is a greedy heart involved. Greed is a selfish and excessive desire for more than what is needed. Greed is focused on taking care of oneself.

In Mark 12:44-44 Jesus tells a story about a generous widow. “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

As a widow she would not have many opportunities to provide for herself. How could this woman give all that she had? She had learned to trust her Heavenly Father to be her provider. She could be generous because her Heavenly Father is generous. Trusting God as our provider breaks our bondage to greed.  Are you at peace when it comes to your finances? If not commit to handling your finances God’s way and trust Him to take care of the rest.
