How clear is your mind?

2 Timothy 4:1-22
Verse of the day:
“But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” (2 Timothy 4:5 NLT)
It’s pretty common to know someone who needs corrective lenses to be able to see clearly. When I was in third grade I started to not be able to see very clearly and need glasses. I had the biggest, dorkiest glasses but without them there was no way I would be able to see clearly. Being able to see clearly helps keep me safe and keep those around me safe! Trust me you don’t want me driving without my contacts in!
2 Timothy was the last letter that Paul wrote before his upcoming execution. These were his final teachings for the next generation of believers who were to continue spreading the faith. He highlights the importance of keeping a clear mind. We may have 20/20 vision but unless our mind is clear we still are in trouble!
Our minds do not see clearly on their own. We have biases based on our own experiences that cloud our vision and we are influenced by culture and people who are close to us. In order to be able to see clearly we need to have God’s Word be the lens that we look through. We need to spend time daily in the Word and memorize scripture so that we constantly have it in our mind. Through God’s Word He is able to then transform our minds to be able to see the world around us the way that He sees it! When we see things the way He does we are able to have peace when we face times of suffering, and we have boldness to share our faith and do whatever God has called us to do!
