Embrace God's Plan

Jacob wanted to marry Rachel and his dream was simple. Work to earn the permission of Rachel’s father to marry her and then move back with his family. After all, he was positioned to inherit a full 50% of everything owned by his parents.
Yet, things didn’t happen exactly as Jacob had anticipated. After seven long and hard years of work, when he was finally going to marry Rachel, his father in-law deceived him. Jacob ended up married to Rachel’s older sister. When Jacob complained about the unexpected turn in events, his father in-law claimed that he couldn’t have given his younger daughter in marriage before the elder. Thus, Jacob lost 7 years of his life and all his carefully laid plans went out the window.
However, Jacob didn’t lose hope. In fact, he chose to work 7 more years for Rachel. He surrendered his life’s plans to God and trusted Him. As it turns out, God used the deceit of Jacob’s father in-law to bless him (that’s a devotional for another day).
Like Jacob, you may have a clear vision of what you want and when you want it. However, how are you going to react when – like Jacob - you don’t get what you wanted or when you don’t get it within your preconceived timeframe? What do you do when life doesn’t go according to plan? Do you complain about how unfair your life is? Or, do you embrace God’s plan for you?
Today, I want to encourage you to learn from Jacob’s example. Be willing to surrender your life’s plan to God. Trust Him. You see, God’s plans for you are better than your own.
Embrace God’s plans for your life today!
