Isaiah 25:1-28:13
Galatians 3:10-22
Psalm 61:1-8
Proverbs 23:17-18

Verse of the day:

Don't envy sinners, but always continue to fear the LORD. (Proverbs 23:17)

Have you ever experienced envy? The dictionary defines envy as a feeling of discontent; coveting another's advantages, success and possessions. Again I ask: have you ever experienced envy? Sometimes this emotion will overwhelm us when we least expect it. There will be times as believers where we are unquestionably experiencing the blessings and favor of God; we're living in peace and hope and all our needs are met...and then envy comes along...

It's the husband and father who begins to long for his single days again. He looks at his other guy friends who do not have families and he envies their freedom to indulge in any relationship and reckless behavior as they please. It's the single young woman who has been saving herself for a man who will love Christ more than her. Her decision to wait for Mr. Right has cost her many dates and she begins to envy her friends who go to the clubs while she sits at home. It's the believer who has experienced the faithfulness of God; they tithe off of their steady income and they have financial peace; but they begin to notice that those who spend every penny on themselves seem to have better decorated homes and go on better vacations more often.

To all of this Solomon simply says: don't envy sinners. Yes, sin does provide happiness, but it's temporary. It's a few minutes of pleasure surrounded by hours of emptiness. God's plan is far better; life to the full here on earth and an incredible eternity just ahead.
