One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Jeremiah 1:1-2:30
Philippians 4:1-23
Psalm 75:1-10
Proverbs 24:17-20

Verse of the day:

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

When God sets out to solve a problem, he almost always starts off with a baby.

When my first daughter was born I was captivated by the sweet and innocent look in her eyes. She appeared so helpless, yet she like every other baby has enormous potential! God’s greatest work began with a little baby, and in the case of Jeremiah the prophet, God was working in this little life long before his birth. God formed him, called him and valued him when no one else even knew he existed. What is true of Jeremiah also applies to you and me!

As Christians we see the beauty, dignity and potential of every human life. The children of Israel stood out from their pagan neighbors who would burn their living children as sacrifices to their gods such as Moloch.  This was so heinous in God’s eyes that He dealt severely with these cultures as a result.

As Christians today we should stand out in valuing all human life. Recently the hashtag #shoutyourabortion appeared on social media based on the idea that we should do away with the silence and stigma that comes with abortion. The notion that we should celebrate the extermination of innocent life is truly gruesome and shameful. Sadly there is no more dangerous place for a child than in the womb. We must stand up for the most vulnerable amongst us.

When God sets out to solve a problem he starts with a baby. Every life has dignity and potential.
