Proverbs 20:26-27

Verse of the day:

The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive. (Proverbs 20:27)

I have never been a camera buff. I am the one that always forgets to take pictures in vacation. I don’t take selfies.

Before the days of digital cameras, we had this thing call film If you exposed the film to light, it would ruin the image. You always had to be careful to make sure that you did not let the film be exposed to direct light. So, darkness was essential to the development process.

In the same way, our sin likes to hang out in the dark room. The growth of our sin can be stunted or destroyed when exposed to the light. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." (John 8:12, NLT). When we ask Jesus into our lives and hearts, he brings this great light that exposes our sin and the darkness in our own hearts. He does this to ruin the development of sin in our lives. If you want to destroy the growth of sin in your heart, just expose it to the light. Confess your sin.

Jesus does not want to harm you, he wants to harm the development of sin in your life. Exposing your life to Jesus does not ruin the picture of who you are, but it fully develops the picture of who he wants you to be. Take some time today to open the dark parts of your life and let in the Lord’s light.
