One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Nehemiah 5:14-7:73
1 Corinthians 8:1-13
Psalm 33:1-11
Proverbs 21:8-10

Verse of the Day:

They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9 NIV)

The person cut from their youth team who is now a professional athlete.

A Broadway actor who was once told they have no talent.

The successful entrepreneur who pursued their idea when others said it would never work.

These are people who would say they are better because they experienced setbacks, ridicule or defeat.  The pain of feeling like they are not good enough fueled them to work even harder, focus more intently and pursue with more passion.

Nehemiah’s enemies tried to intimidate him as he led the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem.  Look at Nehemiah’s response:

They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9 NIV)

Nehemiah knew what God called him to do.  Instead of withering in the face of opposition, Nehemiah asked for additional strength.  His determination grew stronger as a result of those who wanted him to stop.

We have a choice to make when we face opposition.  We can allow those who speak negatively into our life to defeat us.  We can quit we are criticized.  Or, we can press on with renewed vigor to accomplish what God has equipped us to do.
