One Year Bible Reading Guide

Haggai 1:1-2:23
Revelation 11:1-19
Psalm 139:1-24
Proverbs 30:15-16

Verse of the day:

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! (Psalm 139:17-18)

The thoughts about God's love, protection, guidance and care led David to conclude that the Lord’s plans for His people are incredibly precious, and in fact, are innumerable. They are also relevant for each morning when we awakened. Everyday God is still with us—extending His thoughts and love toward us.

In other portions of this Psalm David expresses how fearfully and wonderfully we are made. He explains how God knows our coming and our going. How God took every fiber of our being and “knit” them to His will before we ever drew a breath. And how He places His hand of blessing on our head—that fact alone is so great and glorious, that it’s hard for us to begin to comprehend.

God goes before us—follows us—and walks along side of us—all at the same time. That is to say, He goes before us preparing/clearing the way; He follows behind us as a rear guard protecting us from the past; then He walks along side of us as our friend, teacher, comforter, healer, and so much more.

So the next time you are feeling lonely, even abandoned, read this entire Psalm and you will discover what David discovered—that is, you are never out of God’s eyesight—never out of His thoughts, (He was thinking of you even before you were born into this world), never out of His care and blessings and protection. And when you awaken in the morning, go about you day with the assurance that God is there to greet you, guide you and love you.

Remember, the Bible says that the heavens and the universe are but God’s crocheting—His knitting—His busy work, but you—you are His greatest work—the apple of His eye for whom He gave ALL!
