Verse of the day:
May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. (Psalm 67:1)
I love the smile of our God. I love how He delights in us. He bestows His grace and unmerited favor upon us. As much as I cherish the pleasure of God, I won’t ever pretend to comprehend it.
In Daniel Chapter 9, the prophet Daniel is calling out to the Lord for mercy. He needs the favor of the Lord to restore his city and his people. So how does Daniel capture this attention? What does he do to win the favor of God? Daniel prays, “We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.” The smile of God is unachievable. We can’t fake it, and we can’t force it. God smiles upon his children because He loves us, and he doesn’t love us because WE are good. God smiles because HE is good.
