Genesis 46:1-47:31
Matthew 15:1-28
Psalm 19:1-14
Proverbs 4:14-19

Verse of the day:

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1)

Let’s talk about work, shall we…

Every day God’s creation overflows with His continuous announcement that He is real, He is amazing, He is present and intimate. Every person on earth sees this. We see God’s glory because we see His work.

When God created the paradise that was the Garden of Eden, there was work. We often think of paradise as being a place where there is no work, where we take long naps on hammocks. But work is an integral part of paradise. Work is not a result of sin or the fall.

In Genesis 2 God plants a garden and He waters it. God is a gardener. This work was not beneath God. God then commissions you and I to carry on His work by filling the earth and subduing it (Genesis 1:28). In the New Testament God appears as a carpenter. Again, to work with His hands was not beneath God.

God works for the sheer joy of it, thus when we work, we reveal that we are made in the image of God. Our work has great dignity because God works. Working is the way we create that which is beautiful and allows us to serve others.

Have a great day at work!
