Psalm 66:1-20
Proverbs 11:24-26

Verse of the day:

“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:24-25 NLT)

When I was a senior in high school I worked after school as a receptionist for a small office building.  I worked 2 hours every day after school for the owners of the building ensuring that there was always someone there to greet the different tenant’s guests that would come in. The job was such a blessing not only because it was right down the street from my school but also because I got to meet the Roman family who owned the building. The Roman’s were generous people.  I saw them be generous with their employees above and beyond what would be expected. They valued the people around them more than they valued the financial bottom line.

Generosity has more to do with our hearts than it does with the money in the bank. We can be generous even if we are not wealthy. Often some of the most generous people that we will encounter will not be those with the most wealth. This verse challenges our thinking because the temptation can be to be stingy in order to not lose everything but the verse says that when we give freely we actually become wealthier.

I think we all would like to be generous people but we can be fooled into thinking that requires more income when really we just need a heart change.  We can be generous in a variety of ways: with our money, our possessions, our time, and our talents. The more we give and bless others the more blessed we really are. How generous are you? How can you be more generous with the people you encounter today?
