2 Samuel 7:1-8:18
John 14:15-31
Psalm 119:33-48
Proverbs 15:33

Verse of the day:

If you love me, obey my commandments. (John 14:15)

It’s fun watching people who are in love. When a guy loves a girl and is trying to seal the deal there is no request too big that he will not accommodate. Each weekend is one-long extravagant date and when they post all the details online it makes the rest of us guys look bad!

I love my wife dearly, and because I love her I make her breakfast each morning before she goes to work. Joanie is a very detail orientated person and every aspect of her breakfast has to be just right; a thermos of hot chocolate, a bottle of water that’s 90% ice, a chocolate shake with 3-4 ice cubes and cereal in a cup to go. Making this breakfast isn’t the same thing as loving Joanie nor is it necessarily proof of my love; rather it’s a result of my love. This is the point that Jesus is teaching us in John 14.

When we love Jesus, we will do what he tells us to do. We’ll do things that we may not understand and we’ll obey when a cost is involved. It’s simply the fruit of loving Jesus. At times obeying Jesus will even become effortless because we are deeply in love with him. So if obeying Jesus is the result of loving Him, our main focus in life needs to be falling in love with Jesus over and over again. We’re never settling when we choose to love Jesus above all others; He is the kindest, most generous, most powerful, most loving person in the universe. If anybody else ever says ‘If you love me, do everything I say’ run away; however when Jesus says this, it’s an invitation too good to pass up.
