I Miss You

Verse of the day:
Listen! The LORD ’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. (Isaiah 59:1)
I heard a story of a man who owned a '68 Chevy C10 truck. If you've ever sat in such a truck, you know that it had a long front seat. You could go in the driver side door and exit through the passenger door just by sliding. The man in our story was married and, every Saturday, he took his wife out for a drive and then to lunch.
One Saturday, his wife was extremely quiet and leaning against the passenger side door. She usually chatted up a storm during these rides. However, that day, she didn't say a word.
Her husband noticed that she was too quiet. "Are you ok?" He asked with that tone that husbands use when they know their wife is not ok. He insisted, "you're too quiet. Is anything wrong?" She answered, "I miss those times you used to drive around town with your arm around me. I loved how it made me feel close to you. It made me glad that you wanted to be close to me."
Her husband answered, "Honey, I've always been here behind the steering wheel. You are the one who drifted away from me and closer to the door. If you didn't want to be close to me anymore, I was not going to force you." After a brief pause, he asked her, "would you like to get closer to me?"
This story reminds me of what Isaiah 59 says. You see, the people of Israel were complaining that God was not answering their prayers and started to wonder if he was powerful enough to help them. God's answer was clear. "I am powerful. I hear your prayers. But you're not as close to me as you used to be because your sin lead you astray. You slid oh so slowly away from me and today you're missing the closeness we used to have. I miss it too!"
Are you as close to God, your Father, as you once were? Are you slowly drifting away from the Lord? If you are, God is asking you a question today. "Would you like to get closer to me again?"
