Verse of the Day

“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!  But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!"

Revelation 3:15-16 (NLT)

As the weather turns frigid this time of year, you may hear someone at a coffee shop order their drink “extra hot.”

On a hot summer day, vendors at the beach and ballpark know to pitch their beverages as “ice cold.”

I’ve yet to hear someone say, “what I’m really craving right now is an extra lukewarm drink.”

Many customers would reject a drink that is supposed to be either hot or cold if it was served lukewarm.

Jesus uses our aversion to the lukewarm to warn us about living out our faith without passion.

He says, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!  But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Revelation 3:15-16 NLT).

Jesus speaks about action (or lack thereof), “I know all the things you do."

We can become so comfortable with our stuff and lifestyle that our enthusiasm and eagerness for God turns dangerously weak.

Jesus urges lukewarm believers to “turn from your indifference” (v. 19).

These verses challenge me and I hope they challenge you.

Have you become too comfortable?

Is fear of jeopardizing your current lifestyle or relationships keeping you from taking a step of faith toward the unknown?

Today, let’s be for what God is for and against what God is against - spitting out all that is lukewarm.
