That’s It, I Quit!

2 Corinthians 8:1-15
Verse of the day:
If your boss is angry at you, don’t quit!
A quiet spirit can overcome even great mistakes. Ecclesiastes 10:4 (NLT)
I have recently heard stories from local business leaders struggling to hold onto employees.
Some workers quit because the workload seems overwhelming.
One owner feels like he is walking on eggshells when he speaks with employees. Several have quit when they receive coaching on how to perform their job better.
Of course, there are two sides to every story. However, we really need to ask just how low we draw the line when making a decision to leave a job.
Solomon, the king who prized wisdom above all the world had to offer, wrote, "If your boss is angry at you, don’t quit! A quiet spirit can overcome even great mistakes” (Ecclesiastes 10:4 NLT).
We have this ugly side of our human nature when it comes to confrontation. When we are confronted, our nature is often to reject personal responsibility and become upset with the one who is doing the confronting.
If you feel a tension in the workplace, let me encourage you to take a deep breath. Give yourself hours, a day or the weekend to process what was said. An authority in your workplace is not automatically a jerk just because they are critical of your work. Receive the feedback. Consider that it may actually be true and worth receiving.
We stand to stifle our own growth if our answer to an angry boss is quitting.
When the atmosphere escalates. Lean into that quiet spirit Solomon is talking about. There is little clarity to make wise decisions when anger is present.
