Hold Onto Hope

1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18
Verse of the day:
"So there at Hebron, David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel, just as the Lord had promised through Samuel." (1 Chronicles 11:3)
Have you ever had something promised to you that seemed to take forever to come? I'm one of those people who waits by the mailbox for every fun delivery. I use Amazon a lot because I love getting whatever I want in just 2 easy days. In fact, as I'm writing this I'm waiting for a Father's Day gift to be delivered today. (It's a fun Batman surprise for those wondering.) I'm the guy constantly checking the tracking and hoping my packages will come early.
David is someone who had to wait a long time and go through a lot of junk to receive the promise he was given. He was anointed as a kid and promised to become King of Israel by God. Yet even after the miracle of defeating Goliath, the many battles won for Israel, earning the favor of the nation, and faithfulness to Saul it took years for David to become King. He went through a lot of junk. The king tried to kill him multiple times, chased him across the country, slandered his name, and kicked him out of the country.
Maybe there's a promise from God that you've been given. Maybe it was for a prodigal child to return to God. Maybe it's for a loved one to accept Jesus or for a blessing to come. Whatever the promise is, hold onto hope! David went years and through so much stuff before he received the ultimate promise - to become King! And he was the best king Israel had. Don't give up on God's promises, he never breaks His word.
